Beat the Gong is Central Florida's first-ever live and broadcasted Variety and Talent Show. Every Wednesday night, in the heart of downtown Sanford we will present the best in local and surrounding talent. Our host and celebrity judges will choose a nightly winner that returns to compete in the Grand Showcase later.




How does it work?

It's simple. Perform your best talent without getting gonged. You will have at least two minutes to showcase yourself. If you survive the Gong, it will be up to our celebrity judges to decide who takes home the nightly prize. The top contestant will return later to compete in the Grand Showcase. No entry fee!

What acts are allowed?

Lol, you can do whatever type of performance you choose, as long as it does not lead to an arrest or a censorship fine. Acts can be any genre or style type. Solo to small ensembles acts are allowed. We do not offer a backline. Whatever you choose must be plug-and-play ready.

Examples of possible acts:

Karaoke
lip-sync
Vocal (bring your original song or production on a background track and perform)
Spoken Word
Recites of Shakespearean Sonnets
Poetry
Rap
Freestyle rap battle (at least a duo, can't battle with self)
Solo instrument acts
Solo instrument and vocal acts
Duo with Instrument acts
Switching into multiple personalities
Comedy
Dance
Levitation
Burlesque (Limited, no nudity)
Pole Dancer
Magic Tricks
Drag queen performance
Masked singer
Whatever you choose. ( as long as it does not lead to an arrest or a censorship fine).

How to sign up?

Sign up ahead of time to be assigned a timeslot. Email undead@manikinslounge.com, Since instruments and props may be involved, we must ensure that our sound guy has what you need. Walk-ups without props and special sound needs are allowed to walk up if time permits.

What type of broadcast is it?

All broadcasts are live feeds to Facebook, YouTube, and Ticktock. What happens in the showcase?

ABOUT MANIKINS

Our Origin Story

The Manikin Lounge and Live Music Venue is the birthchild of rumored immortal Tom Morris, a possible descendant of Vlad the Impaler. Tom having, been born in the late sixteenth century, has seen the world many times over. So out of necessity and at to avoid the risk of being bored to death by ordinary venues. He decided to create a haven for those that crave and feed on exhilarating natures.

Therefore he created Manikins, which is a place where he, his fellow kin, other supernaturals, and celestials could miraculously transcend together. So, come, and step away from the overwhelming mediocrity of minor venues. Choose whatever fabulous or ghostly essence you live to express, and experience the eclectic culture of the 80's Goth, Darkwave, Ebm, Industrial, New Wave, Rock, Metal, and other origins.
